Job Description:
Summary This position is located at one of the various Indian
Health Service Hospitals or Clinics under the Navajo Area Office.
The primary purpose of this position is to function as an
Optometrist performing a full range of professional Optometry
duties including preventive and therapeutic medical care to
individuals of all ages. Examines, diagnoses, treats diseases and
disorders, chronic eye conditions (i.e. cataracts, glaucoma,
diabetes, degenerative corneal and retinal diseases, etc).

This is a designated position covered by Public Law 101-630,

Measles and Rubella immunization required for selectees born after
1957 and seasonal influenza immunization is required for all staff
working in Indian Health Service health care facilities.

entrance on duty.

staff clinical privileges, including any licensure requirements. If
privileges are not obtained or maintained during employment, the

BASIC REQUIREMENT(S):
Education: Applicants must have a Doctor of Optometry degree from
an educational program that is accredited by the Accreditation
Council on Optometric Education (ACOE) at the time the degree was
obtained.
Licensure: Applicants must have received a passing score on the
National Board of Examiners in Optometry (NBEO) examinations and
possess a current, full, and unrestricted license to practice
optometry in a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of
Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.
In addition to the Basic Requirements, you must also meet the
Minimum Qualifications stated below.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
GS-11: Applicants who meet the above basic requirements qualify for
GS-11 grade level.
GS-12: In addition to the requirements for the GS-11 (or
equivalent) level, applicants must meet one of the following
requirements:
Time In Grade: Federal employees in the competitive service are
also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion
(status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the
next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under
the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP).
